A wine of place inspired by legacy
Winemaker's Notes
This delightful blend of Merlot and Petit Verdot is a real beauty. The nose delivers a pleasant potpourri of espresso, red currant, raspberry cobbler, graphite, violets, and fresh fir boughs. The wine shows off a strong structure complemented by a rich, velvety midpalate. The compelling concentration of black and blue fruits carries through to a fresh and lingering finish. Drinking amazingly now but can easily cellar for a decade if you can keep your hands off of it.
Vintage Notes
2021 turned out to be one of the warmest vintages we have ever had. The season started off about normal with budbreak around the third week of April. The weather warmed up and we saw bloom dates that were a little bit early beginning the first week of June. During bloom of the 2020 vintage, we had cool temperatures with cloud cover and rain resulting in shatter and poor yields. The prior year’s lackluster bloom resulted in fewer clusters being formed in the buds for the 2021 vintage. The weather really warmed up, hitting many days of 100+ degrees, including a couple of days of 110+. The vines weathered the heat quite well and berries were very small, also leading to a light crop, yielding an average 1.5 – 2.0 tons per acre. Harvest began on September 8th and finished on October 12th, one
of the earliest harvest endings for Figgins Estate Vineyard. What the vintage lacked in yield, it made up for in quality, producing wines of exceptional density.

The stunning 2021 ‘Figlia’ is a one-of-a-kind blend of equal parts Merlot and Petit Verdot — both coming from the estate vineyard owned by Chris Figgins. Stored in only 26% new French oak, the ‘Figlia’ is a brooding, inky and beautifully poised monster of a wine at this moment that really needs an hour or two of air before savoring. Pencil lead, violets, tar, tobacco leaf, heady dark and blue fruits alongside shades of espresso grounds all mark the nose. The hugely complex nose brings you back to the glass for more indulgence. The palate is elegant and refined, with a smooth texture and beautiful sense of finesse and weight. Everything is in clockwork balance here. Give this another year at least before enjoying — your patience will be rewarded. Drink 2025-2045
97 - International Wine Report
The captivating 2021 Figlia from Figgins, a delightful blend of Petit Verdot and Merlot, presents a striking dark opaque blue-purple core with a blood-tinted rim. Its richness and luxury extend from the nose to the palate, offering a symphony of dark fruits, bramble, pink peppercorn, dusty herbs, wet earth, and sweet spice. The interplay of crunchy yet balanced tannins and delightful acidity leads to an earthy and spice-driven finish. A wine that promises to blossom even more by 2025. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.

Boldy structured but richly polished, with expressive flavors of blackberry and cherry that are layered with lavender and woodsy spices as this builds tension toward fine-grained tannins. Petit Verdot and Merlot. Drink now through 2033.
